About MobileCAN!

MobileCAN! aims to connect small businesses with essential resources to ensure they are well-prepared for growth and capital access. Our initiative emphasizes inclusivity, reaching out and engaging with entrepreneurs throughout the Mobile region. As the next generation of business owners emerge in the Port City, it is crucial that we provide support and meet them where they are. Mobile’s small business community is more diverse than ever, yet their fundamental needs remain consistent, and this is where MobileCAN! will assist in navigating those available resources to effectively address their needs.

Who?

The Mobile Chamber Foundation, Mobile Chamber, Innovation Portal, and the Melton Center at the University of South Alabama have launched the Mobile Capital Access Network (MobileCAN!) to deliver targeted programs to approximately 2,200 business owners and entrepreneurs.

What?

As Mobile works to grow its local capital network and strengthen the community’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, MobileCAN! will provide technical assistance to business owners and entrepreneurs to increase their capacity and readiness for growth by connecting them to business and funding opportunities.

When?

Launched in 2024 with a $2.8 million grant through the Minority Business Development Agency’s Capital Readiness Program, MobileCAN! will work towards delivering these programs and services to approximately 2,200 business owners and entrepreneurs over the next 4 years.

Where?

Mobile serves as the regional economic driver for South Alabama and much of the Gulf Coast with key industries including aerospace, chemical, logistics, and manufacturing providing extensive opportunities for business owners and entrepreneurs to grow and scale their business.

Why?

Historically, there are business owners and entrepreneurs in the Mobile region that have faced barriers to entry and growth, including access to capital, awareness of and access to contracts, and an overall readiness to compete. MobileCAN! will deliver a variety of technical assistance and programs that will address the barriers, creating a community of entrepreneurs who are ready to do business.
